10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of your house?
The exterior of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your home in Thousand Oaks, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time of year to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest in the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not give you much of an issue, but second and third floor windows can be trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem silly since you will just be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washing service will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use during the summer, so it’s easy to overlook it in the winter when you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in rough condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical home roof issues in Thousand Oaks. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your roof too, but you will have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and leave it sit. This will kill all organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is going to be what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even inspire you to spend more time outside.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean unnoticed areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will probably be spending more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you will need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment should all have an assigned place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your home so much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the look of your home.
Kill weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
You can probably finish all of these jobs after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Thousand Oaks Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
